23 Sep 2023 - Elite Team

The last week of PWT Italy saw a succession of events and satisfactions for the team, starting with the Italian Sprint Championships, passing through the awarding of the Vicenza sports stars, and arriving at the official call-up for the EOC 2023, which will see three of our athletes wearing the Italian jersey again at home.

ITALIAN SPRINT CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023

For Park World Tour Italia, the success was achieved by Annarita Scalzotto, who, in her first year in the Elite category, brought home the bronze medal in a tie with national team mate Maddalena De Biasi and only 10″ from victory.

VICENTINI ON THE PODIUM

On Thursday 21st September, organised by the Province of Vicenza in collaboration with CONI Vicenza, Vicentini sul Podio took place at Villa Cordellina Lombardi in Montecchio Maggiore (VI), the event that rewarded Vicenza’s sports stars. The event, now in its second edition, rewards those athletes who have distinguished themselves by winning gold at the national level or the European/world podium. The list of athletes and teams is long, counting 6 teams and 34 athletes. Among them was Annarita Scalzotto, who received the award for her gold medal at the Italian Sprint Relay Championships in Livigno. Annarita thus had the opportunity to give visibility to her results, to our sport, and to the European Championships that will soon be organised in the Vicenza area.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS/LAST ROUND WORLD CUP CALL-UPS

Finally, the highly anticipated Italian EOC 2023 is exactly 10 days away. In these days of particular organisational stress comes the wonderful news that as many as three PWT Italia athletes will be representing the nation at the European event: Riccardo Scalet, Sebastian Inderst and Annarita Scalzotto. Their comments follow:

Annarita Scalzotto: “The European Championships in October are the focus of the season for me. I’ve been working as hard as I can to get to the event and now that there are just a few days left, I can’t wait to see what I can do. I definitely have expectations for my performance, but I know that however it goes, it will be a positive experience that will teach me a lot and give me a lot of satisfaction. Running at home is undoubtedly a plus: I hope to use this to my advantage and look forward to a week of excitement and personal growth.

Sebastian Inderst: “After my subdued performances at the World Cups in the Czech Republic, I managed to train well and improve my personal bests in the 3km and 10km, while also getting back into the mechanics of the sprint distance. I am looking forward to giving my best in front of the home crowd!”

Riccardo Scalet: “I feel ready for the big finale of the season. It is a dream come true to compete in a European Championship at home, I will give it my all and I hope to hear everyone cheering me on in the streets of Verona, Vicenza and Soave!
