To get your 2023 season off to a great start, two appointments from Southern to Northern Italy, organized by PWT Italia, which you absolutely cannot miss.

After the success of last summer’s World Masters, the Gargano confirms itself as a land of orienteering: the MOC – Mediterranean Open Championship arrives in the beloved Vieste on April 1 and 2, the competitions which will serve as the opening of the 2023 competitive national season with its 1st and 2nd rounds of FISO Italian Cup.

On Saturday, April 1st, the historic center of the Apulian town will once again welcome the athletes with a Sprint distance, while the following day there we will move to the Umbra Forest for a challenging Long distance. The finish line on the Vieste’s seafront has already made orienteers from all over the world fall in love, thanks to its extraordinary sceneries, made of breathtaking views and intricate ancient village alleys.  In addition, athletes will be challenged with continuous ups and downs as well as variations in direction.

The competition in Foresta Umbra, among the 10 UNESCO heritage forests in the world, will then be the perfect ending of the weekend, with an orography requiring high technical orienteering, only the most precise and careful orienteers will navigate mistake-freely through its karst terrain made of thousands of sinkholes and depressions. Both challenges will be valid  World Ranking Event, so don’t miss this opportunity. Registration closes on March 15!

2023 will also be the year of the European Sprint Championships in Italy and, to better prepare for the appointment, the MOC Sprint Camp,  the event’s official training camp, which will be held between Verona and Lake Garda from 3 to 8 April. The national teams of Norway and Sweden have already confirmed their presence.

The program includes a day dedicated to the Sprint format (April 4), one to the Sprint Relay (April 5) and one to the KO Sprint (April 7). In-depth seminars will be held every evening at the event center in Castelnuovo sul Garda with the testimonies of coaches and pro athletes. From 1 April to 8 April there will, as always, be free training opportunities managed by the organization. January 15 will be the last day to live this wonderful experience, run and sign up!
